Here's the scenario
Its funny how people drink too much, eat too much of the wrong stuff, worry too much ( in the name of "hustling" or...."relationships")and they freak out when they have a terminal disease like high blood pressure or cancer (I can just see people mentally snapping fingers over their heads in the famous "Godforbid" gesture).
But it's the truth.
Everybody knows somebody, who knows somebody, who knows somebody that either died from or is afflicted by an "old peoples' disease"
It ain't fiction. Its a fact. People in their early 30s and late 20s are being diagnosed everyday with high blood pressure, diabetes etc.
Every year, people eat foods with enough grease to run a small factory, some consume enough alcohol to drown in (literally).
And who do they blame when that dreaded test result comes back from the doctor????The devil, the governmet,Bad hospitals, NEPA, and those mysterious people from our Villages who have nothing better to do than visit native doctors on our behalf.
My dear friends, these illnesses are real and they are out there.
Please, exercise (even if means going for a short walk everyday)
eat right, quit smoking,
drink a lot of water ....and try going for a medical checkup now and then.
Here's another scenario,
You recently had a full medical test. Now you're sitting across from the Doctor in silence as he reads through your blood test results. His expression is blank and unreadable.
You have no idea what the results are.A trillion scenarios run through your head like snap shots from a camera. You start a mental checklist of all the high risk activities you've been involved in(and the people you did them with).
Scary huh?
Truth is scary by nature and thats why most people avoid it.
I know people that have never gone for any form of medical checkup in the past 5 years.
And what do they do when they're sick? They go the pharmacy and say,"I think I have malaria!"
For most diseases the best form of defence is early detection. But most people don't want to hear that. They say "Ignorance is bliss!" Well, so is unprotected sex, until it kills you!
"Wetin you no know no fit kill u!"
Tell you what, if you don't believe in the law of gravity or you're unaware of its existence, find the tallest building in your city and jump off it.You're allowed to scream "NO GRAVITY,"allllll the way down.
Why do people gamble with their lives? Why do we dread that trip to the doctor's office so much?
Don't get me wrong, hospitals are scary. But so is
HIV, CANCER, LIVER DISEASE AND EBOLA.
Some guy yesterday was telling me how he has never gone for HIV screening in his life. That he doesn't believe in modern medicine, that what he believes is what works for him.
"Opus leave dis Ebola talk abeg", he said as he "downed" a third bottle of stout.
"God no go gree bad tin do me, am a christian", he said as he lustfully eyed a girl walking by.
My friends and I have a funny saying that goes;
"Dem no dey use 'I-BELIEVE-IN-GOD' drink hot water o!"
Listen I believe in the power of Faith but that doesn't mean you should test it by not taking care of yourself!
That's the harsh truth.
Recently, a very dear friend of mine died of a heart attack .He was just 34years old.
Please go for medical checkups as regularly as possible .Not just for your sake, but for the lives of those around you..Above all else I wish everyone good health.
Life is a choice my friends.
So choose wisely.
Enough said.
Comments are welcome......
Spammers on the other hand, would be shot, run over with my car, thrown off a cliff,
hung by their toe nails, and made to watch me do the MAKARINA....... in slow motion.
I'm just saying
Finally! Am here!
ReplyDeleteNice...health is wealth!
Health is wealth indeed. I fink we shuld also luk hw we can manage our health frm the comfort of our homes, so many of us due 2 wrk schedule dnt always hav the time 2 go to the hospital 4 medical checkup, though its very vital, but sumtimes u even meet long qeue dat can last 4 hours b4 it gets 2 ur turn. Wat I'm sayn in essence is dat we can get sum medical kit nd aparatus jst 2 check on our health frm tym 2 tym, lyk the Digital Bp apparatus or the manual type 2 save cost, also the Blood suger monitor machine 2 check ur sugar level, jst 2 mention a few, dis keeps u in check on daily bases. But in all our health shuld be givn a professional attention frm tym 2 tym.
DeleteSome of these medical checkups are very expensive I was talking to a friend of mine who drinks acohol to check his blood glucose level in the hospital..I don't have money for that kind of thing, when I settle down I would take care of myself that was what he said
Deletetrue talk
ReplyDeletehmmm. quit smoking. VERY IMPORTANT. som1 i know has got to read dis post.
ReplyDeleteWe fail to realise that health is wealth and it's very true.......
ReplyDeleteWe over do everything and ignore our health. But even experts sef no dey try with all this "don't eat this" "don't eat that" hian, what are we now gonna eat? But it's better we do the needful atleast that will give us a bit of health leverage....
Tanx for sharing all the same
Opus no welcome party for first timers?
*grunts* I need to cut down on the amount of frizzy drinks I take.
ReplyDeleteModeration is the key and exercise also.
ReplyDeleteSome do take their health for granted and when they talk, they leave you wondering if they ever saw the four walls of a school. Back then in school I had a neighbour who believed a girl that requests he wears a condom before having sex with her is either an ogbanje or has jazzed her privates and want to use it on him. Am sure the look on my face that day would have been epic......lmho
But then we have those who can barely feed not to talk of going for check up. The least these set of people can do is watch what they eat and drink and top it off with exercise and hope the heaven smiles on them and they get free medical check up.
The exercise part is what most of us(myself included) are guilty of. We are just too lazy or can't be bothered. I can count the number of times I have taken up exercises only to abandon it half way through *sigh*.....
Just do your part, live healthy and pray.
And note not just the physical body needs to be healthy but the spirit also.
Great post!
ReplyDeleteLemme just add that High Blood Pressure isn't always caused by what we eat or weight.
Sometimes it's just hereditary.
Health is wealth indeed!
