Rooney walked down the path, away from the meeting ground. The night was chilly, and his shirt didn’t provide any form of warmth for him. He carried the black pot, dreading every step that took him close to his car and hence his mission.
As he drove down the bush path, he let down his windows, letting in the chilly air. He sped past the bush tracks, and unto the tarred road. The black pot was on the back seat of his car. The stench from it was what he tried to diffuse by letting down the windows. It filled his nostrils.
Rooney walked slowly towards his bedroom, where Raina slept. His hands shook, bearing the pot. He stood by the door, and braced himself. Opening the door, he let his eyes get accustomed to the darkness. He could make out her outline on the bed. Luckily for him, she was fast asleep. He needed to do this is fast as he can.
He went to his wardrobe, and took out the black piece of cloth with which he covered Raina. His lips moved fast with incantations as he swirled the pot around till grey smoke burst out of it and went down towards the floor.
A black shadow rose from the floor, taking the shape of a beast-like man. The beast had decaying flesh, and a hunch back. Claws from his hands were like metal spikes, and it had no eyes in its sockets. It raised its head, and looked towards the bed, taking a step closer. Rooney continued chanting, and the beast swayed from side to side, with its large feet unmoving. Then it strenched its right hand towards the bed, and touched Raina, drawing a mark on her leg. Blood spewed and its tongue came out of its mouth, stretching to the blood.
It took a taste, and fell into a frenzy swaying faster. Then it lifted its second hand, and Raina sat up. It pulled her up with an unseen force, suspending her in the air and pulling her closer to it. When she was close enough, she opened unseeing eyes, and er body fell limply to the bed. The beast elevated itself from the floor, and disappeared in a vapour into her chest. Immediately, Raina’s body swelled double it’s size. Rooney fell to the ground crying.
He sat there for over ten minutes, weeping then a figure appeared behind him. A woman dressed in a white wrapper.
“Rooney” she screamed, startling Rooney out of her misey. He jumped up frightened, turning around.
“Jesus” he exclaimed.
“Mama…. Ehm ma… What are… ehm” he stuttered.
“What have you done?” she asked him in an angry voice.
“What.. ehm do you mean” Rooney asked looking around.
The woman walked towards him, and he took steps backward. He looked towards the bed, where Raina lay motionless. The woman spun around, and screamed.
“You have done the unpardonable… My daughter…. You must pay” she said.
Rooney looked around helplessly, wondering what was happening. His mother-in-law was right in front of him, he wondered if he was hallucinating. It was past midnight… how was it possible? She didn’t come in through the door. He watched her spin around, singing.
Then two other girls that looked exactly like his wife appeared by her side singing with her. Rooney ran to the door, and tried opening it. It was shut tight, and the keys didn’t make it budge. The three women stood in a straight line facing him and began aging. When they stopped spinning, they were old and unrecognizable. Then one of them pointed to the black pot that was on the ground. Rooney fell to the ground chanting incantations.
“You cannot use the blood of an oldling….the blood is sour…. You must spit it out….You must give it back” The women said together. Then Rooney watched as his black pot started shaking. He was compelled towards it, unable to control himself.
He looked at the lifeless body of his wife as he was thrown on the floor in front of his pot. Then his head was forced towards the mouth of the pot, and the smoke from his pot enveloped him. He started coughing and grabbed his chest falling unto the pot and smashing it. The women stopped singing, and watched him die. Then they disappeared.
The next morning, the corpses of the elite couple were found dead in their bedroom. The case has never been solved.
