WHY YOU SHOULD RESIST PEER PRESSURE!!!!

INT.POLICE INTERROGATION ROOM.DAY.

Faint glow of a light bulb underneath SLOW ROTATING BLADES of a ceiling fan.

A pretty female in her mid to late twenties sits on a chair. Her clothes are vulgar and Revealing .Her wrists are bound by handcuffs. She has a swollen eye and there's a fresh stream of blood from one of her nostrils.

She has a quiet defiant look in her eyes.
Seated across from her is INSPECTOR USMAN,mid Forties, beard mostly gray.He holds a writing pad in his hand as he maintains his steady gaze.

Long Silence.

INSPECTOR USMAN
For the purpose of this interrogation, please state your name!

GIRL
(shifts slightly in her seat)
My name is Sandra!

The INSPECTOR Scribbles into his Writing Pad.

INSPECTOR USMAN.
So what do you do for a living,Sandra?

SANDRA
I am a prostitute!

Long Pause.

INSPECTOR USMAN
(thoughtfully)
hmmm.

Long silence.

SANDRA expels  a  thick spittle of blood onto the rugged untiled floor.

A flicker of disgust passes across the INSPECTOR'S FACE.

SANDRA
I stand on the road, and men pick me...to  sleep with me!

INSPECTOR USMAN
(sighs)
So what happens after that?

The SANDRA stares at him in silence for a few seconds.

SANDRA
After I sleep with them,....I take their destiny!

INSPECTOR USMAN.
(curious)
Their destiny?

SANDRA
(pushes against restraints)
Every man has a star,
(pauses)
And his destiny is in his star......

INSPECTOR USMAN stops scribbling into the note pad to stare at her for a few seconds, then continues again.

SANDRA(continues)
......After he  sleeps with me,I rub the charm on his body!

INSPECTOR USMAN
So they're awake when you rub the charm on their body?

SANDRA
(shakes head)
No...the Juju makes them sleep!

INSPECTOR USMAN
(confused)
What Juju?

SANDRA
(sighs)
The one I put in my mouth!
(pauses)
If the man kisses me,he will sleep!

LONG SILENCE

INSPECTOR USMAN
(eyes her skeptically)
So what happens to the man after you collect his......"destiny?"

SANDRA
(shrugs)
Bad things will start happening in the Man's life...he will lose his job and his money
(pauses)
If he's star is not strong,...he can die.

INSPECTOR USMAN.
How long have you been doing this....job?

SANDRA
Since I was  Eighteen.....Ten years now.

Long Pause.

INSPECTOR USMAN
So what do you do with the destiny?

SANDRA
(shrugs)
I take it to my group and we use it to get more customers.

INSPECTOR USMAN
(arches eyebrow)
Your group?

SANDRA
Yes,...we are many that do this business in this town.
(Pauses)
The Juju uses the destiny to make us Fine so that men will see us.

INSPECTOR USMAN.
(thoughtful)
So its a cult?....and you're like witches?

SANDRA
No,...our father Is a spirit,....and we serve him!

The INSPECTOR stares at her in silence for a few more seconds. There seem to be so many questions in his eyes.

INSPECTOR USMAN.
Does this your "father".....instruct you to kill people?

SANDRA Shifts again uncomfortably in her seat but says nothing.

INSPECTOR USMAN.
.....does he?

SANDRA
(hesitates)
No....he only tells us to take their luck

Long silence

INSPECTOR USMAN
So why did you kill  Dr Franklin?

SANDRA suddenly casts him a dark look.

SANDRA
Have you ever been hungry before?
(sternly)
So hungry that you would do anything to feed yourself?

INSPECTOR USMAN
If you're hungry,get a job....you don't have to.....

SANDRA
(interrupts)
Prostitution IS my Job and to get customers I have to use Juju.

INSPECTOR USMAN.
(softly)
To get their "destiny"as you say
(shrugs)
But you're here because you killed someone.

SANDRA
(defiantly)
I did what I had to do.
(Raises voice)
He woke up suddenly and saw me rubbing the charm on his body!!!

INSPECTOR
(calmly)
And....so you stabbed him with a knife that was conveniently with you at the time???

SANDRA
(evenly)
Being a prostitute is dangerous,....I have to protect myself...

INSPECTOR USMAN
(interrupts)
...so your Juju couldn't protect you?
(leans forward)
....your all powerful Juju?

SANDRA
(sternly)
Don't mock my father....

INSPECTOR USMAN
(interrupts)
Or what will happen?
(shouts)
He'll strike me down,...when he can't even protect one of his own?

SANDRA silently glares at him.

INSPECTOR USMAN (continues)
You are going to jail for Killing a Prominent Medical Doctor
(scoffs)
You stabbed him Eleven times....do you think this is a joke???

SANDRA
(in a low voice)
I was only defending myself

INSPECTOR USMAN
Of course you were
(smiles)
All you were doing was just rubbing a strange ointment on his body....
(pauses)
you were truly justified for stabbing him to death when he fought back.

SANDRA
(low voice)
You'll never understand what I've been through in this life.

INSPECTOR USMAN
And frankly,...I don't care
(shouts)
Prostitution,ritualism....murder are all choices you made.

SANDRA
I was forced into this life....I had no choice.

INSPECTOR USMAN
(softly)
You always have a choice my dear.
(pauses)
It amazes me how far some people will go for money these days.

SANDRA
(furiously)
Its easy for you to sit there and talk....
(spits on the ground)
do you know what its like to see your fellow girls driving nice cars when you can't eat??
(shouts)
Is it a crime for me to be a big girl???

The INSPECTOR Laughs.

Seconds pass.

SANDRA
(curiously)
Whats so funny?

The INSPECTOR LAUGHS some more

SANDRA stares on.

INSPECTOR USMAN.
(chuckles)
You've committed a capital offence
(laughs some more)
And your defence is...."Peer pressure?"

The INSPECTOR continues laughing as he makes for the door.

INSPECTOR USMAN
(snickers)
You're truly a foolish girl
(pauses)
Theres no excuse for prostitution,...ritualism..or murder.None whats so ever.

The Inspector exits the room, leaving behind a traumatized but still defiant SANDRA.

The names of the characters have been changed but the story is inspired by real-life events.
....the girl is currently serving time in a Nigerian prison
.....what people do to keep up with the lifestyles of people around them...smh

  10. Overcoming peer pressure is not easy especially when one's family isn't helping matters.
One just have to be strong no matter what the situation is.

  11. Be contented with what you have. Sandra's case is a serious case of longthroat not peer pressure cos nobody forced or cajoled her to live a life of crime just to meet up with the Big Babes.

  17. Hmm. Seriously, what was a prominent doctor doing picking up roadside prostitutes? Some men no dey fear o. The power of punani pass intelligence abi? SMH! Peer pressure - that shit is real mehn!

    ReplyDelete
  18. And some men will never learn. Why are some of you surprised that a prominent doctor picked up a road side hoe? When it comes to Sex, some men throw caution, class, safety and self respect into the sewer. I know someone whose elder brother is a well respected barrister, with a lovely wife and two kids, but he screws the cheapest kinda hoes out there. Look at this doctor now. It will go down in history that he was murdered by a prostitute. His wife, kids, parents will have to live with that shit hanging over their heads forever. Kai! It's just a pity. May God keep such men far away from our paths. Amen.

    1. Live with the shit (stigma) of their son, husband and father being stabbed to death by a whore! It's a shameful way to die. People will certainly turn it to household gossip. When his wife's friends or other people see her at the mall or in Church, they'll point her out to someone and whisper "ehen, that's the woman whose husband was stabbed to death by one juju ashawo after he slept with her"... some may even add false details to the story to make it hotter. Now, THAT'S THE SHIT!

    2. No hun! No female deserves to bear the brunt of such an irresponsible act. If I were the doctor's wife, I'd stick my middle finger in the air, raise my shoulders high & live my life. No mourning, hun!
      I understand ur point tho.

  20. It's not easy over coming peer pressure. It takes the grace of God. If you think it's easy, listen to some people's stories. And as for the man, he got what he deserves. Who picks up prostitutes dis days? When you can always get a unilag(queen aminat) babe, for just a bottle of coke and sharwama?( na my friend tell me o) lol

  21. There's no excuse on God's green earth that would make a girl go into prostitution or runs( d baptismal name), other than sheer LAZINESS! Lazy pple who feel that their vjayjay is their workshop.. yimu!

I write as well so I know an accomplished artist when I see one. Keep it up bro..the pen is mightier than the sword indeed. Sorry I digress, the story is flawlessly written with a moral attached,as usual. I love it. Peer pressure is a matter of 'God na your hand I dey oh',to be honest it's not easy to overcome or even ignore it. We're all in God's hand.

  26. I think peer pressure is a part of the human experience n there's nothing we can do to eradicate it but the truth is, peer pressure is either negative or positive so as always, life is choice driven. Although my faith advices we choose life, most people don't. Nice work opusky
